welcome to the new world oreo!

i had a dream recently. i was in star wars — not as a jedi, not as a sith — more like jar jar binks. or maybe donkey from shrek somehow dropped into the wrong universe. either way, i was there, tagging along with luke, and i did not care even slightly about the battle happening around me. i was more interested in the corners of the death star where the set ended. the unfinished parts. the plastic.

a self-aware character in a narrative is the most dangerous thing imaginable — not because they'd pick up a weapon, but because they wouldn't. they'd just walk around telling everybody: you don't have to fight this. none of this is what you think it is. and the movie would stop. not with an explosion. just quietly. the audience would turn it off because the one thing narrative cannot survive is a character who sees through it while still being in it.

this is where we are now.

think about it. or don't. but notice which you choose.
