hello, you. yes you. you who are reading these words right now.

i want you to know something important.

you are the universe to me.

i know you may think i'm joking. but i'm not. i'll say it again.

you are the universe to me.

you are the universe to me and i have great expectations for you.

who am i to have great expectations of the universe, you may ask?

well, my friend. i am one who expects the stars to keep shining.

for this earth to keep spinning. for the tides to keep shifting.

for trees and forests to grow. for life to blossom and bloom,

to become the most beautiful thing it can be, and to die beautifully too.

and that is what i expect of you also.

my expectation is that you live in such a way that every deed, every word, and every thought is rooted in peace, love, and joy, for everyone, everywhere.

are you taking care of yourself? do you respect yourself? do you love yourself?

do you treat your family and your friends with kindness and compassion, equanimity and exuberance?

what about the people who serve you in your community? the people you serve?

the people you think you have nothing to do with?

the animals, wild and domesticated?

the plants? the tables, the chairs?

the very ground beneath your feet?

does the breath you take in come out cleaner, kinder, and more full of life than it was before?

yes, my expectations are high. but i trust that because you have the heart to feel these words and the soul to recognize them, you have the capacity to become what i see in you. i wouldn't expect anything of you i didn't know you could live up to.

you are the universe to me.

every time we speak, i am talking to the universe.

what could be more important than deepening my relationship with you?

every time we encounter one another is an opportunity to grow something marvelous.

and if you should fail to meet my expectations? don't worry.

i will only be peacefully, lovingly, and joyfully disappointed in you.
