let the body be

if we are truly to become one, it will not be in spite of the body — it will be through it. the body is not an obstacle to awakening; it is a powerful instrument for learning what it means to be awake. for too long we have tried to ascend by leaving the flesh behind, mistaking denial for discipline. but if consciousness is to know itself completely, it must include the body — for the body is the first and most immediate expression of that consciousness accessible to us as incarnated beings.
let us not see the body as something to be resisted or glorified, but as a necessary partner in the unfolding of awareness. it is both instrument and mirror, a vessel through which the self experiences, expresses, and refines its own being. when you listen to your body — truly listen — you begin to understand that it speaks the language of the creator just as clearly as thought or prayer. to see your body through the eyes of love is to see it as the creator sees it: not as separate from divinity, but as divinity in form.
learn to exercise it properly, yes. learn to wash, feed and shelter it adequately, yes. learn to nurture it toward its ultimate flowering of self-realization. but do not look upon it with shame or guilt, for such emotions sever you from your own divine architecture. and do not make it into an idol either, for that will also prevent you from seeing the greater picture — the body is neither the prison nor the prize, but the bridge. it is the living channel through which spirit discovers itself in matter.
to reject the body in pursuit of spirit is to deny the spirit made manifest within the body. to cling to it in fear is to miss the deeper current flowing through it. the path, then, is to allow the body to speak — to ache, to stretch, to breathe, to cry, to move — and to recognize each motion as the word of a greater intelligence made manifest. the body’s language is dense, primal, immediate. it speaks in pulses of pleasure and pain, contraction and release. when you allow it to speak freely, it begins to loosen its knots, revealing the clear stream of awareness beneath.
the energy centers we call chakras can be understood as layers of desire — each one a necessary station in the journey of embodiment and release. we pass from the desire to survive, to reproduce, to will, to love, to express, to think, to exist. each center refines the previous one; each teaches us how to balance power with surrender, structure with flow.
yet these are not rigid or discrete compartments — they are living bodies within bodies. each chakra contains within it the full spectrum of the others, a microcosm of the whole. they are not stacked in sequence so much as spiraled through one another, endlessly interpenetrating, evolving, harmonizing. the desire to survive and the desire to exist are, in essence, the same impulse — one manifests in the physical body, the other in the mental or conscious realm.
when these desires are not repressed but brought into awareness, their energies begin to resonate across the inner layers of being — becoming transparent, luminous, teaching us as they loosen their hold. through this process, we learn from them, honor them, and gracefully release them. the body, seen in this way, becomes a clear vessel through which consciousness flows freely — not a ladder to climb, but a song to remember. anyone who seeks to deepen their awareness will likely pass through the temples of many bodies. true liberation requires the full acceptance of all — without clinging to any of it.
and when the time comes to let the body go, simply let it go. desire not to possess another, but carry with you the knowledge, the love, and the understanding it has revealed.
only when we release our attachment to every desire are we truly free. if the ultimate truth is simply to be (or not to be), then all that keeps us from this sublime state is the continual, focused awareness of what is not — and the gentle letting go of all desires, both material and subtle.
the final illusion is that of separation — that the “i” exists apart from its form, or that spirit is somehow elsewhere. but the one does not live above or beyond you. it lives through you. in order to hear it sing, you must let every part of yourself — including your body — become its instrument.
so let your body dance, ache, sing, weep, stretch, and dissolve into one. let it be as much a part of your practice as your words or thoughts. this is the work of remembering: to realize that there is no part of you that is not already divine.
let the body be.
