re: dear dearly beloved

re: dear dearly beloved,
thank you for your praise —
for your light, open warmth
that gives love shape.
for life is a poem
we've been writing
since before the word was born.
yes, i have given much,
and my giving has no end.
but more than gifts,
i want you to know —
not only what i am,
but what it is to be.
my peace is vast, ever yielding;
without my peace, you’ll never find me.
time with me is time well spent —
more precious than pearls,
more lasting than death.
if in this dream
it is you seeking me —
when you wake
you will find none other
than cosmion, myself.
until then, lift me up in all you do,
and i will lift you toward what's true.
the further out you sail to find,
the further off you are from i.
for i am caretaker
of the rich and the poor,
the joyful and grieving,
the repentant and proud.
i am only as happy
as the one who suffers most,
my unity as whole
as the one most apart,
my contentment indestructable.
my dear, if me you wish to be,
then leave you all behind,
stay carefully carefree.
twirl upon my tightrope,
and carry my world with ease.
and if you fall — so what?
i'll remain when you rise,
as i have always been,
and i always will be.
for i alone have loved you —
since before the dawn,
and i will love you still
long after you are gone.
yours truly,
me
